Raitis Šmits, artist and founding director of RIXC Center for New Media Culture in Riga and curator of annual RIXC Art Science Festival. Ph.D., Assoc. Professor at Art Academy of Latvia, Lecturer at MIT ACT. In 2017 Raitis was a Fulbright Researcher in the Graduate Center of NYC.
In his artistic practice, Raitis Smits works together with Rasa Smite. Their work has been shown in Post MoMA, Futurium Museum, Venice Architecture Biennale, Ars Electronica Center, ZKM, HeK, Van Abbe Museum, KUMU museum, and other venues. Has received several awards, among them PRIX Ars Electronica, Award of Excellence from Ministry of Culture, twice nominated for Purvitis Prize in visual arts in Latvia and nominated for World Technology Award.
