BMW has become the official transport partner for the Rīga Jūrmala Festival’s 2021 season, providing the highest level of comfort for the artists invited by the Festival.
On May 25th, a special and long-awaited masterclass will take place on the Rīga Jūrmala Academy Facebook page with celebrated pianist Yefim Bronfman. Three young, talented Baltic pianists will be taking part in the masterclass: Aleksandrs Kalējs, Mantas Šernius un Elžbieta Liepa Dvarionaite, who are piano students at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Next week, on May 12th, 13th and 14th, three string masterclasses will take place on the Rīga Jūrmala Academy Facebook page led by world-famous musicians: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Principal Violinist Robert Chen, Principal Cellist John Sharp, and Gautier Capuçon, one of the 21st century’s leading cellists. The masterclasses, which can be viewed by all who are interested, will feature students from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and pupils from the Emīls Dārziņš Music Secondary School.
A masterclass with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s principal oboist Alexei Ogrintchouk will take place today, April 12th, at 4 p.m. on the Rīga Jūrmala Academy Facebook page with Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music students Varvara Zavjalova, Renāte Lodziņa, Pauls Kristaps Reinis and Kira Maija Kirsanova.
Tomorrow, April 9th, an online masterclass with famous tenor Joseph Calleja and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music students Renārs Austrums, Dainis Kalnačs, Andris Kipļuks and Vladislavs Skrunds will be broadcast. ‘Mariss Jansons: A Tale of Four Orchestras’, a film by Peter Maniura, tells the Latvian maestro’s story through the eyes of the four leading orchestras which he led. The Riga Jurmala Music Festival today announced the commissioning of a documentary dedicated to honouring legendary Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons (1943-2019), due for broadcast in early 2022. ‘Mariss Jansons: A Tale of Four Orchestras’ will be directed and conceived by Peter Maniura, an award-winning television producer and director with more than twenty-five years’ experience in music and arts broadcasting at the BBC, the European Broadcasting Union and independently.
Concertgebouworkest flutist Emily Beynon’s online masterclasses with flutists from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music Secondary School (JMRMV) will be broadcast this Wednesday, March 10th, from 3 to 6 p.m. The online masterclasses are organised as part of the Riga Jurmala Academy programme in collaboration with the JVLMA, and can be viewed on the programme Facebook page.
This Friday, March 5th, an online singing masterclass with famous mezzo-soprano Alice Coote will take place with talented singers from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music: Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone, Diāna Bistere, Jana Lute and Līga Anševica. Tickets go on sale to the public today, March 1st, for Rīga Jūrmala Music Festival concerts with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra conducted by Latvian Andris Nelsons. The plan includes the performance of two programmes of Wagner’s music for the first time in Riga, including Act I of Die Walküre with soprano Christine Goerke, tenor Klaus Florian Vogt and bass Günther Groissböck, on September 3rd and 4th this year at the Latvian National Opera.
