The opening of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival will be marked by a press conference. The press conference will take place on July 19, 11:00, at Grand Hotel Kempinski.
The RIGA JURMALA Music Festival will open this week – 19 and 21 July – with two concerts by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO). Both concerts will be broadcast live on Latvian Radio 3 Klasika, but the concert on 21 July will also be aired on Latvian Television at 22:10 with the generous support of the Foreign Ministry of the Federal German Republic.
A specially assembled youth orchestra, led by burgeoning conductor Arturs Oskars Mitrevics, recorded a welcome video for RJMF guests called “Music is in Our Nature”.

As announced today by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mariss Jansons is immediately taking a three-month regenerative break on the advice of his doctors, preventing him from conducting concerts with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in June, July and August 2019. Susanna Mälkki, music director of the Helsinki Philharmonic and principal guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will replace Mariss Jansons for the concerts with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra during the opening weekend of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival
This summer, a new, world-class symphony orchestra festival, the RĪGA JŪRMALA Festival, will take place in Latvia. The festival’s opening season will run over four weekends, from July 19th to September 1st, with concerts taking place at the Latvian National Opera, the Great and Small Halls of the Dzintari Concert Hall, as well as the Great Guild. Executive Director of the festival, Zane, Čulkstēna, tells us more.
The new Rīga Jūrmala Music Festival has been awarded an EFFE Label by the European Festivals Association (EFA). Only events who aim for arts engagement, community involvement and international involvement can be considered for this award. For 2017-2018, 715 festivals throughout Europe gained this label.
