Pianist Jan Lisiecki will replace pianist Murray Perahia on August 24 at 7pm at the Riga Jurmala Music Festival in the performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Zubin Mehta. Unfortunately, Murray Perahia has had to withdraw from this engagement due to ill health, as well as engagements at the Salzburg Festival, the BBC Proms in London and the Lucerne Festival. The program will remain unchanged: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major op. 58 and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major.
This week, from August 23rd to 25th, the new Riga Jurmala Music Festival continues with five excellent concerts at the Great and Small Halls of the Dzintari Concert Hall. Performing at the third weekend of the festival will be young pianist Jan Lisiecki (23.08), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and legendary conductor Zubin Mehta (24. and 25.08), world-famous pianists Murray Perahia (24.08) and Yuja Wang (25.08), in addition to chamber performances by pianist Denis Kozhukhin (24.08) and violinist Alexandra Conunova (25.08).
Yesterday, August 19th, the second weekend of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival closed with a chamber music concert by baritone Benjamin Appl and pianist Simon Lepper, as well as a concert by the Russian National Orchestra, cellist Mischa Maisky and conductor Mikhail Pletnev.
On August 17th two wonderful concerts took place in the Small Hall of the Dzintari Concert Hall: guitarist MILOŠ and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra String Quartet played music from Bach to The Beatles; while the evening saw a top solo concert given by soprano Olga Peretyatko, who replaced tenor Joseph Calleja, who had taken ill.
