On August 16th the second Riga Jurmala Music Festival weekend was opened by chamber music concert of cellist Mischa Maisky and pianist Lily Maisky in Dzintari Concert hall. The focus of the second weekend are the concerts of cellist Mischa Maisky and the Russian National Orchestra.
“I am enormously pleased to play in Dzintari with my daughter Lily. I feel as though she—although she is a mature performer—takes on many things from me. By the way, after concerts I often meet with budding musicians who ask me if I can give them any professional advice or a masterclass. You know what, my answer is always one and the same: by being on stage tonight I taught you a lesson,” continued Maisky. “Lily and I have built this chamber music programme to be lyrically and emotionally saturated, including both of our favourite pieces. Meanwhile, with conductor Mikhail Pletnev, who I greatly respect as an artist, and of whom I am a huge fan, we are brought together by special musical links. It was with him that I performed the first time I returned to Russia after emigrating. A great musician!”
On August 18th, Mischa Maisky will perform Saint-Saëns’ Concerto for Cello and Orchestra with the Russian National Orchestra, conducted by Mikhail Pletnev.
