Vladimir Ashkenazy retires

On 17 January 2020, conductor, pianist, musician, artist and humanist Vladimir Ashkenazy announced his retirement from public performances with immediate effect.

The Riga Jurmala Music Festival will announce shortly the conductor to replace Maestro Ashkenazy for the two concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jurmala, the first on 28 August featuring pianist Alexandre Kantorow and the second on 30 August featuring cellist Truls Mørk. Tickets already purchased to any of the two performances will remain valid*.

While we are disappointed not to witness Maestro Ashkenazy’s artistry first-hand next summer, the Riga Jurmala Music Festival thanks Maestro Ashkenazy for his artistic generosity over the last more than six decades and wishes him all the best for the future.
