The biggest metropolis in the Baltics, Riga perfectly combines history and tradition with cutting edge cool. Like all northerners, it is quiet and reserved on the outside, but there is some powerful chemistry going on inside. Experience more of it by following the list of attractions.

Art Nouveau

Riga is one of the largest centres of Art Nouveau, with more than a third of the buildings of its Central District built in the style. Alberta Street is the Art Nouveau epicentre of the city: eight of the buildings located on the street have been recognised as architectural monuments of state significance. Excellent examples of the style can be found in the surroundings of Alberta Street as well. Each house is decorated by figural sculptures, façades with protruding balconies, columns and other elements covered in abstract curls keeping with the best traditions of Art Nouveau.

Addresses of essential Art Noveau buildings:

  • Art Noveau district (The Silent Centre): Alberta iela 2, 4, 6, 8 & 13; Elizabetes iela 10a & 10b; Strēlnieku iela 4a, Rīga
  • Riga Old Town: Jauniela 25/29; Kalēju iela 23; Šķūņu iela 10/12; Smilšu iela 2 & 8, Rīga

Not only it is a venue of ecumenical services, it also serves as one of Riga’s organ music centers containing historical, architectural, cultural and artistic heritage of various centuries.
